Leatherhead goalscorer Carl Gibbs has revealed the Tanners will be using their remaining games as a launchpad for a Ryman Division One South promotion assault next season.

Gibbs fired the opener in Saturday's 2-1 win at Worthing that cemented Leatherhead's place in mid-table.

The striker admitted boss Ian Hazel was already making plans for the summer and beyond.

And with Carlo Castrechino, Ben Shannon and Scott Bennetts released last week, busy times are expected at Fetcham Grove.

Gibbs said: "Things have really turned around since Ian arrived.

"I was bought in by him but the other guys say how much of a difference there is.

"The play-offs are a bit of a dream for this year so it is about playing well and looking forward to next season.

"The rest of this year is all about building a base. The summer will be a lot easier as there is likely to be less disruption in the squad and the boss will know what he wants."

Saturday's three points were secured by goals late in each half from Gibbs and Billy Marshall.

But Gibbs insisted the result had never been in doubt.

He added: "We were comfortable. We kept possession well and played very well in patches.

"Everybody pulled together and it was a good win."

Leatherhead visit Chipstead on Saturday, with the Tanners looking to avenge a 1-0 home defeat earlier in the season.

Gibbs added: "Although we are playing well you cannot go into games expecting to win.

"If you go along and think you will cruise through, that is when you will come unstuck."
