Croydon's Brit School has been given the go-ahead to build a £3million extension to provide additional teaching space and music facilities for its star students.
Nurturing national talents such as Morcheeba, The Kooks, Kate Nash, troubled singer Amy Winehouse and 2006 X-Factor winner Leona Lewis, the Selhurst school has been creating stars for more than 15 years.
The proposed development included provisions for a new library, theatre, music rooms and ancillary offices to be built within the structure.
Plans received only one objection from a neighbour claiming that it would double the amount of students at the school, lead to inadequate parking on the site and would be an eyesore.
No other objections were received from the other 88 in the area regarding the proposal.
According to the application, the school is lacking in providing enough space for its students in the Library, ICT suite and restaurant areas.
A relocation of rooms and equipment will free up space and allow pupils to reach their full potential.
Music and dance classes are to be moved to purpose built rooms within the new building, as insufficient space and a lack of adequate facilities exist in the current rooms.
Principle Nick Williams commented: "Since the inception of our BRIT school programme the facilities that we have, have been inadequate.
"Poor sound proofing has led to noise spilling out of classrooms to the rest of the school and onto the street outside.
"With this new proposal we have been able to create a teaching space that is both suitable and accommodating to the needs of not only our students but our neighbours too."
He added:"We are pushing forward our digital programme and hope to have facilities for editing and post production of film and music set-up in the space that will be freed up by the new building."
