A murder inquiry has been launched by police after a man was found dead in a Clapham street with stab wounds to his neck.
The incident, which happened shortly before midnight on Thursday, was originally thought to be a hit-and-run crash but police have now confirmed that they believe it to be murder.
The man, thought to be in his 30's was found in Tennyson Street at the junction with Robertson Street with stab wounds.
However a post-mortem carried out yesterday revealed that his injuries were also consistent with that of being in collison with a car.
The man, who has yet to be formally identified, was pronounced dead at the scene by London Ambulance crews.
Sergeant Greg Page said police were still looking for a dark-coloured four-wheel drive that failed to stop at the scene.
"The dark or black four-wheel drive vehicle will have sustained some damage to its front area in the collision so if you have seen such a vehicle, please contact us," Sgt Page said.
An incident room has now been set up in Lewisham and anyone with information is asked to call 020 8721 4905 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
