A thoughtless van driver brought parts of Croydon to a grinding halt this afternoon, by parking across a tramline in the centre of town.
The hired vehicle was left in the way of trams in George Street at 12.10pm and was not shifted until almost 30 minutes later.
In that time trams and other traffic backed up around nearby streets and the town centre was heavily congested.
The inconsiderate motorist parked the van without considering the traffic implications for Croydon's drivers and commuters. Trams had to be turned around and re-directed or they were forced to wait, causing delays for passengers.
A tram worker said: "I'm not sure what happened today, I know a rental van blocked the path of a tram and a PCSO spoke to the driver while he was in the van."
