Walton businesswoman Kate Beagley was ignoring fitness trainer Karl Taylor on their first date shortly before he killed her, the Old Bailey has been told.
A witness who shared a table with the couple at the Roebuck pub in Richmond, Surrey, said Miss Beagley made no effort to join in the conversation.
The court has been told that Miss Beagley, 32, was found with 31 stab wounds to her face and neck four days after disappearing on the date in May, last year.
Taylor, 27, of Covent Garden, central London, denies murder.
The trial continues.
