Police are seeking the owner of an Invacare Action wheelchair who they believe may have important information about an attempted burglary at a Cobham bank.
Two men are suspected of the crime which happened about 8.45pm on Thursday, January 31. They were seen climbing over a fence into an enclosed yard at the side of the bank and then spotted in the High Street later when one was seen sitting in the wheelchair.
The wheelchair had a black seat and blue frame and was described as being in a good condition.
The two suspects then left the High Street, leaving the wheelchair behind, got into a black Peugeot 307 and left the scene. But they were then stopped by police as they travelled along the A3.
The five people in the vehicle, two 16-year-old boys, one 17-year-old boy, one 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, were all arrested for going equipped for burglary and have been bailed until Tuesday, March 18.
Surrey Police officers are keen to return the stolen wheelchair to its owner and to find out if this person has any information about the incident.
"The owner of this wheelchair could provide vital information about this offence and we are very keen to speak with that person.
"The wheelchair is clearly valuable and it must belong to someone - I would urge that person to get in touch with Surrey Police. I would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or with any other information," said Detective Constable Ian Moody, who is leading the investigation.
Anyone with any information on this incident should call DC Moody at Epsom CID on 0845 125 2222, quoting reference A/08/2553 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
