A 61-year-old was tied up and burgled on Saturday by a man brandishing a sawn off shotgun.
The victim was threatened by the burglar after answering the door of his Hinchley Wood home between 8.30 and 9.30pm.
The burglar, who had sawn off shot gun concealed behind a clipboard, ordered the victim inside the house before demanding he open his safe.
He then tied the terrified man to a chair in the study and locked him in the room.
The burglar stole £200,000 worth of jewellery from the safe including 20 watches and took the keys for the victim's red Mecedes SLK which he drove away.
The car was eventually recovered that night in Cavendish Road, Claygate with the sawn off shotgun inside.
Surrey Police say the burglar is described as a black man, 5ft 10ins and of muscular build.
He was around 40-years-old, clean shaven and had a London accent. He was wearing a dark sports coat and black leather gloves.
Detective Constable Brett Harris said: "This must have been a terrifying encounter for the victim, fortunately crimes like this are rare and we are determined to identify the offenders and bring them to justice. "
