The family of an elderly widow robbed of nearly £2,000 on a bus in Kingston as she went to pay for her late husband's funeral plot have appealed for the robber to have a conscience and come forward.
The woman, in her 70s, from Kingston, was robbed of £1,950, on Tuesday, February 19, on the 131 bus in Cambridge Road at 11.40am.
She was on her way to Kingston Cemetery to pay for a memorial for her late husband - who died just four weeks ago.
The money was in a brown envelope in the victim's handbag and the woman only noticed the money was missing when she got off the bus and saw her bag had been partially unzipped.
A family member, who did not want to be named, said: "Obviously she is still grieving and is very upset and angry - all she wanted was to give her husband a decent send off.
"It is an awful lot of money - these were her savings and the family will have to scrape the barrel again to raise the money.
"If anyone has any information, or if the robber has a conscience for an elderly grieving widow, please contact the police."
Kingston police are appealing for witnesses to the theft and want to trace two men who were on the bus at the same time as the victim.
An elderly male, aged approximately 75, sat next to the victim and spoke to her during the bus journey.
He is described as white, clean shaven with grey hair, slim, approximately 5ft 5in and wearing dark clothing.
Another male was standing to the right of the victim before getting off near Tiffin Boys' School.
He is described as black, in his 30s, clean shaven with short black hair, 5ft 7in, and also wearing dark clothing.
Call Police Constable George Alleway from Kingston Police on 020 8721 5847 with any information or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
