The 3rd Cheam Scouts Group set the benchmark for community work on Saturday. After holding a fundraising fair last year the group put the proceeds towards a bench for the Sutton Common Recreation Ground to mark the centenary of the Scouting movement last year and to provide a place where people can sit and enjoy the park.
It was unveiled on by the Deputy Mayor of Sutton Councillor Brendan Hudson on Saturday. "Young people get a lot out of Scouts so we wanted to give something back. We thought it would be nice to have a bench for elderly people to sit and enjoy the peace of the park as there isn't a lot of seating," said the group's vice-president Philip Tree.
