Two masked men carried out an audacious raid at a bank in Tadworth yesterday afternoon.
The raiders are being hunted by police after they dressed as workmen in yellow fluorescent work jackets and dust masks and robbed Barclays bank in Station Approach Road between 1.40pm and 2pm.
One of the men approached the counter brandishing a handgun and ordered the cashier to hand over money while the other remained by the door.
An unwitting customer entered the bank during the robbery and was ordered to lie on the floor.
The men then left, heading down an alleyway off the High Street with stolen cash.
The robbery comes just two weeks after a similar armed robbery in Leatherhead. Police are still hunting two men in connection with the raid but have ruled out a link with the Tadworth robbery.
Detective Inspector Juliet Parker, who is leading the Tadworth investigation, said: "These men were wearing very distinctive clothing which would have attracted people's attention.
"We believe they left via an alleyway off the High Street but we want to know where they went.
"I am appealing to anyone who was in the Tadworth area on Thursday afternoon between 1.40pm and 2pm who saw two men wearing bright yellow fluorescent jackets to come forward and speak to a member of my team."
She added: "This was a terrifying incident for the young employee and it is vital we identify these men and bring them to justice.
"Barclays Bank is offering a substantial reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of these suspects, or any offenders of serious crime against their banks, and I would urge anyone with information to speak with one of my detectives or Crimestoppers anonymously."
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Constable Trudie Harrison at Caterham CID on 0845 125 2222 quoting reference B/08/4297 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
