A new dental practice has opened in Wandsworth which not only offers customers state-of-the-art treatment but also provides an environmentally-friendly alternative to their usual dentist.
Ethicare Dental, based in West Hill, is the brainchild of husband and wife team Glafcos and Klaudia Tombolis, who have both been qualified dentists for more than a decade and have experience in both the private and public sectors.
They offer the usual treatments such as examinations, hygienist services, fillings, crowns and veneers, tooth whitening and replacement and orthodontics.
To demonstrate their commitment to the environment the Tombolis' use digital x-rays, reduce waste and consumption of non-renewable resources and the practice is as paperless as it can be because patient records are stored electronically.
They have also installed low energy lighting throughout the practice and staff endeavour to keep the use of plastic bags for dental products to a minimum.
Mr Tombolis said: "The dentistry is obviously our priority but we believe it is important to have an environmental and ethical slant to our business.
"We are starting from scratch so the least we could do was to do our bit to protect the planet.
"For the last 10 years I have been working six days a week as a dentist so I am very experienced when it comes to knowing what patients want and need. So when we decided to set up our own practice we wanted to do it right.
"For example, the x-rays are taken in the normal manner but they are scanned into the computer and the results appear instantaneously.
"But taking them in this way, we produce a much lower dose of radiation while producing high quality images - something that is unavoidable when x-raying a patient."
Ethicare uses the best possible equipment including intraoral cameras which allow patients to understand what treatment they require by allowing them to look into their own mouths on a widescreen television.
