A man has been jailed for the fatal stabbing of a woman in Sutton.

Mohsen Saadi was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 18 years, after being found guilty of the murder of 42-year-old Peninah Kabeba.

The 57-year-old, of no fixed address, appeared at Kingston Crown Court today.

The court heard how police were called at 9.55pm on May 27 to a disturbance at a home in Park Road in Cheam.

Concerned neighbours reported hearing a disturbance from inside the home and then seeing Saadi leaving.

Saadi had been living at Penny’s address for a short period just prior to the murder.

Officers found Peninah, who was known as Penny, inside the address with stab injuries.

They provided first aid prior to the arrival of the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, but despite their efforts, Penny was pronounced dead at the scene just before 10.34pm.

One of the neighbours who had called police kept Saadi in his vision and directed officers to him – Saadi was arrested and charged with Penny’s murder.

He was found guilty of Penny's murder at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday, September 15.

Detective Sergeant Marc Gadd from the homicide team who investigated Penny’s murder said: "Saadi is a vile man who took Penny’s life in an act of senseless gratuitous violence.

“I know this has been an incredibly difficult time for Penny’s family and friends but I hope the fact Saadi will now spend a significant amount of time in prison brings them some peace.

“I would like to commend Penny’s neighbours who came to her aid and greatly assisted the police by following her attacker which led to his arrest – their actions were crucial in enabling us to swiftly arrest him."
