I've lived in Putney for the last 30 years and have seen numerous families come and go once they've made a sizeable profit from their property.

Nowadays it seems that almost every other house is having some sort of noisy building work done.

Conservatories, roofs, front drives, loft conversions, new kitchens and bathrooms - the list of alterations you can make to your house is apparently endless.

As I lay in bed on Saturday morning, instead of the routine chorus of birds singing and children playing, all I could hear was the drilling, banging and hammering of tools interspersed with the occasional swear word.

Are people not content with living anymore - must every waking moment be dedicated to making a profit?

How long will us "content" residents have to put up with the constant background din that so often accompanies a nice day?
