Many of your older readers will remember the days when once a month on a Sunday morning they would be awakened from their beds by the sound of the local Boys' Brigade company marching around the streets, bugles-a-blazing before going to church.

Or perhaps they will have seen a mass of lads playing football on a Saturday afternoon on Wandsworth and Tooting Bec Commons?

Both of these have locally passed into history as virtually all of the 50 or so Boys' Brigade companies that have existed in the Wandsworth borough area have closed, leaving just one group still active.

This group is the 70th London company of the Boys' Brigade based in Longley Road, Tooting, and this year it is celebrating its centenary.

As part of those celebrations it is trying to contact as many old boys as possible to join with them for its centenary reunion on Saturday, June 14.

The current company staff have contacted over 150 old boys but are mindful that there are still some that might be missing out.
