Two trips to McDonald's became a costly affair for one Hounslow motorist when he was landed with a £50 penalty charge.

Shamsher Khan, of Eldon Avenue, received the parking fine after visiting McDonald's Heathrow drive through twice in one hour.

The 50-year-old and his nephew Asad Khan, 20, travelled to the outlet in Bath Road at 5.45pm on April 19.

When they arrived, Mr Khan parked his Vauxhall car in a bay before buying two fillet of fish meals to the value of £8.

The pair left the restaurant 20 minutes later to pick up Mr Khan's cousin's wife Marhyam and her two children from Terminal 3.

Mr Khan said: "The children were hungry and they wanted to have a fillet of fish meal.

"However, I returned to the drive-through to buy another two meals. I definitely did not stop to park.

"A week later, I was upset to receive a parking fine for £50. McDonald's say I have contravened the rule about returning within 90 minutes. However, I do not think it is justified because I did not park when I visited the drive-through for the second time."

Jawad Singh, a friend of Mr Khan, phoned McDonald's customer services to complain but was told the fine could not be overturned and would double if not paid within 28 days.

Mr Singh voiced his outrage at the company's response, saying: "My friend spent a lot of money at McDonald's and in return he received a £50 fine.

"You could call it daylight robbery."

Alison Purves, a McDonald's spokesman, said: "The reason for the restriction is to enable customers to park in front of the restaurant.

"Taxi drivers and chauffeurs used to use our car park between fares in the past.

"If Mr Khan wants to get in touch with customer services, we will be happy to investigate the matter."
