Palace fan's hopes of a first leg advantage are on hold with Bristol City having just about had the better of the first half.
The crowd at Selhurst Park have seen Trevor Sinclair trickle a shot toward the line only for his effort to be cleared.
Palace's other strike on goal has come from Clinton Morrison, poking the ball at Basso in the Bristol City net.
Our man at the game Graham Moody believes Neil Warnock's boys are slightly behind against a Bristol City side they took four points off this season.
"If anything City have been a little better but only have the one really good chance to show for it, whereas Palace have the efforts of Sinclair and Morrison that both went close," he said.
"Palace looked like they were wilting in the sun towards the end of the half though and will need to be a little brighter in the second half."
Neil Warnock named an unchanged side for the third game in a row although Matt Lawrence has replaced Tony Craig on the bench after recovering from a double hernia operation. City have ex-Eagle Dele Adebola in attack alongside Lee Trundle.
