There will be “severe disruption” on Croydon’s tram network as drivers walk out, Transport for London has warned.
Members of the ASLEF union plan to strike for two days on Monday and Tuesday next week (October 10-11).
On both days, TfL expects some services to operate between East Croydon and Wimbledon until 9pm, and customers are advised to complete their journeys by 8.30pm.
No service is expected on the rest of the London Trams network.
The disruption means buses in Croydon, Wimbledon, Beckenham and New Addington could be busier than normal.
Trish Ashton, TfL’s director of rail and sponsored services, said: “All customers planning to use the tram next Monday and Tuesday are advised to check before they travel. Local buses will be running but will be busier than normal.”
The action comes as members of the ASLEF union have rejected a pay offer of 4.75per cent from London Tramlink, which they called a “real terms pay cut”.
The service is operated by First Group’s Tram Operations, on behalf of Transport for London.
Finn Brennan ASLEF district organiser said staff are “really angry”.
He said: “The management’s offer of 4.75pc is far below the current inflation rate and would mean our members face real terms pay cuts while their bills go through the roof.”
But a spokesperson for Tram Operations Limited called the action “unwarranted” and claims drivers were given a change in terms in November 2021 “equivalent to a pay rise of over five per cent”.
They said: “We want to find a solution to this dispute – Aslef should call off these damaging strikes, come back to the negotiating table and tell us what can be done to resolve this situation.”
