Armed police were sent to a street in Croydon after reports of gunshots being fired and a stabbing.

Officers were told that a group of people who were armed with weapons were damaging a vehicle in Cudham Drive in New Addington at around 9.50pm.

Other neighbours reported that a man had been stabbed and they had heard shots being fired.

However, officers found no evidence of a firearms discharge.

Armed police officers were sent to the location and found a man with a small cut to his hand.

He was treated by paramedics at who were called to the scene at 10.10pm.

He did not need further hospital treatment.

No arrests have been made at this stage and police say enquiries are ongoing.

This occurred on the same night as other violent incidents in the borough – where three teenagers were stabbed in the space of two hours in two separate incidents on Elmwood Road and Church Street.

The first incident took place at 4:14pm on Elmwood Road in Croydon, where two men, 18, were later arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

The victim, 18, was taken to hospital following a stab injury in a “critical but stable condition.”

A further two stabbings happened on Church Street, at around 5:25pm.

Police were called to the scene following multiple reports of a large group of youths fighting.

Two boys, both aged 13, were found with stab injuries and were taken to hospital.

Both injuries have been assessed as “non-life threatening.”

Police say that two boys, 13 and 14, were arrested - the first on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and affray, and the second on suspicion of affray.

They also remain in hospital.

Superintendent Mitch Carr, South Area Command Unit, said: “Croydon residents will rightly be concerned at this spate of unacceptable and shocking violent incidents.

“We of course share that concern and are doing everything we can to identify and bring to justice the perpetrators.

“A number of people remain in police custody.

“At this stage in our enquires there is no information to suggest any link between them.

“They are all being treated as isolated incidents.”

“We do not and will not tolerate violence on our streets.

“Local people can expect to see an enhanced policing presence across the borough, and anyone who has information that could assist us with these investigations is encouraged to report it immediately.”
