A boy, 16, and two men, 18, have been arrested in Croydon after a couple were robbed at knife point in south London.

Police were called to Godstone Road in Whyteleaf after a couple had been robbed of a phone, a bag and jewellery after being threatened by three men with a knife.

Armed police were sent to the scene within two minutes of the call, but the three suspects had fled the area on a train from Whyteleafe station.

A description of the three people was circulated to British Transport Police who stopped the three arrested a short time later on a train in east Croydon.

The boy, 16, and two men, 18, were arrested in connection with the robbery after being found in possession of the stolen goods and a knife.

The three currently remain in custody.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: “Three people have woken up in a custody suite this morning after they were arrested in connection with a knife-point robbery in Whyteleafe yesterday evening.

“Officers were called to Godstone Road to reports of a couple who had been robbed of a phone, bag and jewellery by three men threatening them with a knife.

“Armed response officers arrived at the scene within two minutes of the call, but the men had fled the area on a train from Whyteleafe station.

“Their description was circulated to British Transport Police officers, who stopped the men a short time later on board a train in East Croydon.

“A 16-year-old boy and two 18-year-old men were arrested in connection with the robbery after they were found in possession of the stolen goods and a knife.

“They remain in police custody.

“Thanks to our British Transport Police colleagues for helping us to detain the men so quickly and retrieving the stolen goods which can now be given back to the victims.”
