Three children and one man were left injured following a crash involving a car and a motorbike on Purley Way.

Yesterday, Friday 28, at around 5:25pm, Met officers were at the scene of Purley Way in Croydon responding to a vehicle pursuit involving a motorcycle.

Officers saw a motorbike in the Purley Way area and suspected it had been involved with the pursuit.

Officers turned the car around and saw that the motorbike had crashed with a car.

The rider, a man believed to be in his 20s, was taken to hospital by London’s Air Ambulance.

Police say his condition has been assessed as not life-threatening but “potentially life-changing.”

Three kids in the car were also treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Enquiries to establish if the motorcycle was involved in the pursuit that officers were alerted to are currently ongoing.

Police have also confirmed that the incident was reported to the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards, and a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, who is in charge of policing in Croydon, said: “Our thoughts at this time are with the rider, and his family, as well as those who were in the car. This incident will have been a shock to all of them, and anyone who witnessed it.
