A man stabbed in a homophobic attack outside of a nightclub in Clapham has broken his silence and shared a moving statement on social media.

The man, who goes by Aniello on his Instagram profile, shared his feelings about the attack as well as a photo of himself in hospital with bandages covering his head.

He was taken to hospital after being stabbed at around 10.15pm on Saturday, August 13 in Clapham High Street by a man with a knife who then ran away.

Police are continuing to search for the suspect.

In his statement, Aniello said that it felt right to share something after the attack and that he has been left with many questions about how someone could feel it is right to attack someone.

He also thanked the LGBTQ+ community for their support as well as his friends and family.

Aniello’s full statement said: “Didn’t know if I should say anything, but I suppose it feels right to.

“I’ve not been left feeling sad, nor angry, or confused, I’ve just been left so many questions.

“To think what can lead to changing a person's mind that much that they feel it’s ok to attack anyone, whatever their reasons, and how can we change that.

“What today has strengthened in me, more than ever before, is that I could never and have never been prouder, happier or more comforted by the community I am lucky enough to have as my LGBTQ+ family!

“I would never change it for the world.

“I am so lucky to have all my family and friends who have reached out just to check in on me today.

“Love you all - all of you.”

Detective Inspector Gary Castle of the Central South Command Unit said: “We are acutely aware of the shock this attack will cause members of the LGBT+ community and want to reassure people that an urgent investigation is ongoing to locate the person responsible.

“We recently announced the reinstatement of LGBT+ community liaison officers for each of our 12 BCUs in London to support and advice on investigations where homophobia is a motive, and to ensure the community has a dedicated point of contact to address any concerns they may have.”

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “An investigation is under way after two men were stabbed in Clapham High Street.

“The incident happened at approximately 22:15hrs on Sunday, 13 August as the two men stood outside a nightclub – they were approached by a man who attacked them with a knife but running away.

“Both men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were taken to hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

“Enquiries are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect.

“While enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing, at this stage the incident is being treated as a homophobic attack.
