Armed police and a search helicopter were dispatched to a Thornton Heath street after reports of gunfire in the area.
Police attended Parchmore Road at around 4.18pm on Monday, August 21.
Despite launching a search using a helicopter, police were unable to locate any suspects.
Evidence of firearm discharge was found at the scene.
There have been no reports of injuries or arrests related to the incident.
Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “At approximately 16.18hrs police responded to reports of gunfire on Parchmore Road, Thornton Heath.
"Firearms officers, local officers and a police helicopter performed detailed searches for suspects.
"At this stage no suspects have been identified, but there is some evidence of a firearms discharge.
“At this stage there are no reports of any injuries or arrests. Colleagues from CID are investigating.”
