Monks Hill Sports Centre in Selsdon, South Croydon has undergone an exciting transformation, with the completion of its latest upgrade.
The highlight of the upgrade is the brand-new gym, which officially opened its doors today (Monday).
Equipped with 30 stations featuring top-of-the-line Technogym equipment, the new gym brings Monks Hill Sports Centre up to par with other council gyms in terms of modern facilities.
This project was made possible by a £140,000 investment from the council's capital budget, specifically allocated for enhancing the borough's facilities.
The revamped gym space has a cardio zone, weights, and resistance zones, as well as new flooring and decoration.
The gym now occupies a more spacious area, thanks to the conversion of the former community room, kitchen, and reception area into a sleek, contemporary fitness facility.
The Monks Hill Sports Centre is a dual-use facility, shared with Quest Academy.
As part of the upgrade, the gym's opening hours have been extended to the public, ensuring greater accessibility.
The gym now welcomes visitors from 6am to 10pm Monday to Friday, and from 8am to 6pm on weekends.
The new additions to Monks Hill Sports Centre nicely complement the existing facilities available on-site, including the exercise studio, badminton courts, floodlit full-size synthetic turf, and an outdoor basketball court.
The new gym will continue to be managed by the council’s leisure provider GLL, and more information can be found here.
Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon, said: "The new gym at Monks Hill is a great addition to the community in Selsdon.
“I'm really impressed to see the introduction of more equipment and space in the gym, and this will allow more people in the area to come along and use it.
“I want Croydon to be a healthier place to live, and facilities like this offer affordable and accessible opportunities for everyone to exercise and improve their wellbeing."
Andy Crofts, Executive Principal of The Quest Academy and Quest Primary School said, "We're delighted by the news of the new gym opening.
“It represents another substantial investment in the community here and a great resource that can also be used by our staff, students, and local families.
“We are committed to promoting health, fitness, and mental wellbeing for everyone we work with, and this new facility will help us achieve that in partnership with GLL and the council."
Ryan Loughlin, General Manager at Monks Hill Sports Centre, shared his excitement about the launch of the new gym, highlighting its role in improving the health and wellbeing of the community. Loughlin stated, "We're so pleased to be launching the new gym at Monks Hill Sports Centre.
“The new gym will play a pivotal part in helping the community to improve their health and wellbeing, both through our sports centre and now also in our state-of-the-art gym facility.
“It will be great to see local residents and visitors in the Selsdon and wider Croydon area benefiting from the huge improvements to the facility."
