A Popeyes is set to open in Croydon next month, bringing its iconic fried chicken to the area.
After opening branches across the UK in Reading, Cambridge and Nottingham, Popeyes UK has confirmed the date of its grand debut to Croydon.
On Thursday, October 12 the restaurant will open its doors for what they are calling “one of their most highly anticipated launches”.
A spokesperson for Popeyes UK said: “Renowned for its iconic Chicken Sandwich, original Southern biscuits, and 12-hour marinated chicken, Popeyes has consistently drawn crowds of devoted fans.
“Bringing the spirit of New Orleans to Croydon, on opening day Popeyes will be rolling out the orange carpet as Mardi Gras style band ‘The Brass Funkeys’ play the first customers through the door.
“The brand will also bring their Southern hospitality to Croydon, with the first three customers through the door receiving the ultimate prize of free Chicken Sandwiches for an entire year.
“Additionally, the first 25 customers will be treated to a complimentary Chicken Sandwich and exclusive Popeyes merchandise.”
Recent openings of Popeyes branches across the country have seen customers queuing for up to 18 and a half hours to savour the legendary Louisiana Chicken Sandwich, a feat which Popeyes refer to as “a cultural sensation”.
Following the most recent opening in Barrhead earlier this week, which saw customers queueing from 4.30PM the day before, the brand anticipates that the Croydon launch will follow suit on October 12.
Croydon's chicken enthusiasts can indulge in Popeyes’ “world-famous shatter crunch” firsthand as they explore the menu offerings, which include the iconic Popeyes Chicken Sandwich and original Southern biscuits and gravy.
The Croydon restaurant will open with Popeyes’ brand-new breakfast menu, featuring the Big Cajun Roll (a sausage patty, egg, streaky bacon, and American cheese in a soft bun with Cajun ketchup), a variety of breakfast muffins, cajun hash browns, and their famous Louisiana buttermilk biscuits served with cinnamon sugar or Nutella.
Tom Crowley, CEO at Popeyes UK, said: “We are thrilled to announce that a new Popeyes restaurant will be opening in Croydon next month.
“A hub filled with unique identity, Croydon has been a key location for us since we first landed in the UK, and we’re looking forward to bringing the spirit of New Orleans to the borough.
“Our most recent openings have been some of the most successful to date, not just in the UK but for Popeyes globally, and we expect that Croydon will be equally as popular”.
The spot will be located at 43 George St, Croydon CR0 1LB, with seating for up to 76 guests for dine-in, with an additional 24 seats available outside, and takeaway service for those on the go.
