Fire fighters were called to a street in Sutton just hours before a man was stabbed to death on the same road.
London Fire Brigade was called to Typhoon Way at around 6.30pm yesterday (Monday, October 2) only three hours before police were called in response to a fatal stabbing.
Some garden furniture was destroyed by the fire and part of shed guttering and a window was also damaged as a result of the blaze.
No injuries were reported.
The fire was under control by 7.15pm.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters tackled a fire at an address on Typhoon Way in Wallington yesterday.
“A small quantity of garden furniture was destroyed by fire. Part of shed guttering and a window was also damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
“The Brigade's 999 Control Officers received nine calls about the fire.
“The Brigade was called at 1833 and the fire was brought under control by 1915.
“Two fire engines from Wallington and Croydon fire stations attended the scene.”
Police were called to Typhoon Way at around 9pm the same evening to reports of a stabbing.
A man, believed to be in his 40s, was found with stab wounds and died at the scene.
No arrests have been made so far and police enquiries continue.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police are investigating a fatal stabbing in Sutton.
“Officers were called at approximately 9.01pm on Monday, 2 October to reports of a man suffering stab injuries in Typhoon Way.
“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and the man, believed aged in his 40s, was treated at the scene.
“Sadly, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he sadly died as a result of his injuries.
“A crime scene remains in place at the location and urgent enquiries are ongoing.
“No arrests have been made and enquiries into the circumstances continue.”
