The Sound Lounge will remain open on Sutton High Street despite fears from Sutton residents that it was closing down for good.

The Sound Lounge, on Sutton High Street, is a vegetarian restaurant that also puts on live music.

As well as aiming to be the first carbon-neutral grassroots music venue, it is also an art centre, with a gallery wall.

The Sound Lounge opened in December 2020 and has proven popular with Sutton residents.

In October 2023, The Sound Lounge owners, Hannah White and Keiron Marshall, announced on The Sound Lounge Facebook Group that the Sutton Council was holding a public consultation for developments behind the Sound Lounge and that “the development plans include Market House where the Sound Lounge is based, and likely the early termination of our lease.”

One Sutton resident on Facebook had commented on the group: “I really hope you don’t close, we need more vegan places like yours.”

Another commented: “Hopefully we'll be able to stop any early termination of your lease.

“You're a breath of fresh air to Sutton!”

A third: “We just can’t let this happen!

“Sutton has been blessed with The Sound Lounge on its high street providing its community with an amazing, inclusive hub.”

But Sutton Council has cleared all worries by confirming it’s to remain open in Sutton.

A spokesperson for Sutton Council said: “We really value the Sound Lounge and their contribution to Sutton High Street.

“There are no plans to end their current lease early.

“We want them to stay on Sutton High Street and we will look forward to working with them to make sure this happens.”

The Sound Lounge menu offers a range of dishes including pizzas, vegan burgers, ciabattas, salads, and daily specials.

It is open every day from 10am to 10pm.
