A woman in her 30s has been raped late at night on a major road in Croydon. 

The woman reported she was raped at the junction of London Road and Kidderminster Road just before 12.50am today (November 18). 

Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended and the woman was taken to hospital.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of rape.

He was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

A crime scene was put in place as detectives carried out enquiries, this was lifted at 10am today.  

Detective Sergeant Walter said: “I know the local community will be incredibly concerned to hear about this terrible incident. I want to offer my full reassurance that a thorough investigation is underway. 

“Local residents should expect to see an increased police presence in the area as we continue our enquiries.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after police were called to the junction of London Road and Kidderminster Road, Croydon shortly before 00:50hrs on Saturday, 18 November.

“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended. A woman in her 30s reported she had been raped and was taken to hospital.

“A crime scene was in place until about 10:00hrs.

“The man was arrested at the scene and was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 and give reference CAD 266/18November.”
