A popular restaurant in Surbiton, open for 23 years, has been named in two OpenTable lists - one for the top 100 UK restaurants and one of the most romantic eating spots.
The French Table in Surbiton was named a winner by OpenTable on both the Top 100 Restaurants and Top 100 Romantic Restaurants lists for 2023.
The finalists are selected based on over 1.2 million OpenTable diner reviews, using metrics such as dinner ratings, percentage of reservations made in advance and five-star ratings.
In London, 37 restaurants were named as winners of this year's awards, with four of them in south London.
The restaurant first opened its doors in 2001, serving contemporary French food to customers with options ranging from a three-course menu to a five-course tasting menu.
The menu, using British produce, is “always changing”, with one of December’s most popular dishes being the venison roasted in smoked tea butter with beetroot and potato gratin.
The restaurant is situated across two floors, offering guests a “laid back and comfortable” setting to try French cuisine.
Occasionally, the French Table also hosts their “Wine Dinners”, where the restaurant will co-host with a visiting winemaker and a four-course menu to accompany the wines selected on the night.
The restaurant was also featured as a finalist in an episode of Gordon Ramsay’s “The F Word" for the category of Best French Restaurant.
Since opening its doors 23 years ago, the restaurant has won a number of awards including Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year, winner at the Food and Culture Awards, and 22 AA rosettes.
When asked to describe the restaurant in one sentence, owners of the French Table, Sarah and Eric Guingard, said: “A well-loved small independent restaurant with friendly service and excellent food.”
On their inclusion in the OpenTable lists, they added: “We are delighted to yet again be in OpenTable Top 100 Restaurants.
“We will have been open 23 years next year and we have seen a lot of changes in our industry, so we are hugely grateful and do not take it for granted that guests have taken the time to review and rate their experience at The French Table.
“We are thankful to our hardworking, committed team that look after our restaurant like their own.”
