A drunk and disorderly man from Morden has been fined after he spat at a police officer in Epsom.
Reece Denyer, 18, from St Helier Avenue, Morden, was fined after he spat at an officer during an early morning arrest.
He was arrested on October 8, 2023, when the 18-year-old was severely intoxicated, displaying slurred speech and able to barely walk.
His arrest on Epsom High Street at 4.34am ended with him becoming agitated, spitting at an officer.
After pleading guilty to assaulting an emergency worker and drunk and disorderly behaviour, he appeared at Staines Magistrates on January 18, resulting in a final bill of £1,304 for costs.
Investigating officer PC Kingham said: “Assaults on emergency workers when they are just trying to do their job simply will not be tolerated. Being intoxicated is also no excuse.”
Borough Commander Jon Vale added: “My colleagues come to work to serve their communities and help people - it is never acceptable that they face abuse and violence when they are at work and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure anyone who threatens or harms our staff in any way will be prosecuted.”
