A motorcyclist had died after a Range Rover crashed with his bike during an early morning police chase near Putney Common.
Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) reported that the Range Rover failed to stop when flagged down by the police at approximately 12.30am on January 29.
This began a car chase between police and the Range Rover driver, leading to a crash.
The motorbike rider was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the Range Rover did not have any severe injuries.
"We were notified by the MPS shortly after the collision and IOPC investigators attended the scene and the police post incident procedure to begin gathering information," a spokesperson for the IOPC stated.
The IOPC has confirmed that a police chase was already in progress at the time of the fatal crash.
An independent investigation was officially declared at 5.49am.
The IOPC released a statement saying: "Our thoughts are with the family of the rider who died and all those who have been affected by this incident."
The A3 Northbound is currently closed, and significant delays are expected due to ongoing crash investigation work, spanning from A308 Kingston Vale (Robin Hood) to A306 Roehampton Lane.
