An investigation into the death of a man in New Malden has been launched by police.
The discovery of the man’s body was made by emergency services at a flat in Kingston Road at 9.05pm on February 14.
London Ambulance Service sent an ambulance crew and a medic in a fast response car to address – with the first medics on scene within five minutes.
The man’s death is being treated as unexpected and is under investigation.
His next of kin have been informed.
Several flats were evacuated as a safety precaution but residents have since returned to their properties.
Protective equipment was used for officer safety due to substances being found during a search inside the address.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 8.54pm yesterday (14 February) to reports of an incident on Kingston Road, New Malden.
“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew and a medic in a fast response car.
“Our first medics arrived on scene in less than five minutes.
“Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 21:05hrs on Wednesday, 14 February to a flat on Kingston Road in New Malden following reports of a man found deceased.
“The death is currently being treated as unexpected and is under investigation. His next of kin has been informed.
“Due to a number of substances being found inside the address, protective equipment has been deployed for officer safety while a further search is carried out.
“Several flats were evacuated as a safety precaution. Residents have since returned to their properties.”
