A flood alert has been issued for the Thames Tidal riverside area from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir.
This follows on from yesterday’s (February 22) heavy rainfall, with yellow weather warnings issued in London for rain and wind.
According to the Environment Agency, river levels are expected to be high as a result of spring tides and high river flows, with high tide forecast in Richmond at around 2pm today and 2.15pm tomorrow.
Flooding on low-lying roads and footpaths is expected, which may last between one and two hours either side of high tide, although flooding of properties is not currently expected.
River flow at Teddington Weir is currently high for the time of year and is expected to remain high for the next five days.
Where flooding is possible
Currently the Environment Agency has warned of potential flooding for these areas:
- Putney Embankment (SW15)
- Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green (W4)
- Thames Bank at Mortlake (SW14)
- Ranelagh Drive (TW1)
- Friars Lane and Water Lane (TW9)
- Riverside and The Embankment at Twickenham
- Towpath below Teddington Lock
The Environment Agency has advised that the situation is being monitored and further updates will be issued tomorrow.
