Two south London hotels have been named among the 100 best UK staycations, with one featuring a rooftop infinity pool and the other situated within a Victorian pub.
Art’otel in Battersea and Spread Eagle in Wandsworth were both featured by the Times and Sunday Times in this year's list of the 100 Best Places to Stay in the UK.
The guide is split into nine regions across the UK, with winners in ten different categories including Beach, Boutique, Cheap and Chic, City and Countryside.
Ranking in number 84 on the list is the Art’otel located next to the iconic landmark of Battersea Power Station in south London.
This boutique style hotel boasts 164 vibrant rooms, designed by Spanish artist Jaime Hayon, to suit anyone from solo travellers to families.
In a prime location, this hotel is situated in a prime shopping location, with links to central London via tube from Battersea Power Station and river boat services from Battersea Power Station Pier.
The hotel also features a spa with a sauna and steam room offering a variety of treatments, and one of its standout features is the Infinity rooftop pool offering incredible views over the Thames and London skyline.
The hotel also offers a variety of dining options, including the JOIA Rooftop Bar with alfresco dining in the summer and the JOIA restaurant created by two Michelin-starred Portuguese chef Henrique Sá Pessoa, serving dishes with a “fresh take” on traditional British and Iberian produce.
Guests can also have afternoon tea downstairs in the TOZI Grand Café with views of the Electric Boulevard for £35 per person.
Rooms start at £274 a night.
At number 90 on the list was the Spread Eagle in Wandsworth, described by The Times as a “quintessentially Victorian pub” with 21 rooms to sleep in, and it offers convenient travel links to central London by tube from East Putney tube station.
The pub was acquired by the south London brewer Young’s in 1836 and later became a hotel in 2021, offering a cosy space for people from busy office workers to families.
It’s also dog-friendly, offering room with dog bowls, beds and blankets provided for your pets, and with the hotel being within walking distance of Wandsworth Common it’s a great spot if you’re looking for a dog-friendly staycation in London.
Being situated in a pub, there’s no need to travel far for food and drink, with a range of home-cooked dishes available for breakfast, lunch and dinner using British sourced ingredients, including roasts on Sundays.
Rooms start at £109 a night.
