New data shows the A roads in Sutton that have the longest and shortest delays.
An A road is a major road that connects cities and towns.
There are six A roads in Sutton, and the A24 is the road with the most delays.
The data revealed that in 2023 there was an average delay of 139.4 seconds per mile for drivers on the A24.
These have improved however as in 2022 the average was 148.2 seconds per mile.
The A road with the shortest delays in Sutton is the A2022 with an average delay of 26.4 seconds per mile.
These have got longer as the previous average was 24.8 seconds per mile.
Road delays can arise from construction works, accidents or vehicle breakdowns, bad weather conditions, or heavy traffic.
The other A roads are the A2043, A237, A232, and A217.
The A2043 has the second-longest delays with 135.7 seconds per mile in 2023, after having a delay of 135.9 seconds per mile in 2022.
The A237 had a delay of 115.1 seconds per mile in 2023, after having a delay of 106.1 seconds per mile in 2022.
The A232 had a delay of 109.9 seconds per mile in 2023, after having longer average delay in 2022 of 112.4.
The A217 had a delay of 86.6 seconds per mile in 2023, after having a shorter average delay in 2022 of 84.8.
