A busy road in Tooting has been closed following a burst water main, with multiple bus routes currently on diversion.
A burst water main on Mitcham Road in Tooting has closed the road both ways between the Antelope Pub and Longmead Road.
Engineers from Thames Water are currently at the scene and are working to make the vital repairs.
In a statement, Thames Water advised that the burst water main requires “deep excavation”, with the road expected to be closed for the next few days whilst repair works are underway.
According to AA Maps, 11 bus routes are on diversion including bus routes: 44, 57, 77, 127, 264, 270, 280, 333, 355, G1 and N44.
A Thames Water spokesperson said: "We responded to reports of a burst water pipe on Mitcham Road in Tooting in the early hours of this morning.
"Our engineers are at the site and are working to make the necessary repairs. This requires a deep excavation and is expected to be completed over the coming days, during which time a road closure and diversion will be in place.
"We are sorry to residents, businesses and motorists for any disruption and would like them to know, our teams are working as quickly and safely as possible."
