The body of a man was found by police in a car that had entered the River Thames in Battersea.
Emergency services were called to Vicarage Walk in Battersea yesterday (March 28) at around midnight, following reports that a car had entered the River Thames.
Witnesses reported that it was driven by one occupant, a man.
Police officers from Metropolitan Police attended the scene along with ambulance crews, HM Coastguard and crews from London Fire Brigade.
The car was later recovered from the river with one man found inside.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are making enquiries to confirm his identity and inform next of kin.
Enquiries into the circumstances continue.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 00:20hrs on Thursday, 28 March to reports of a car that had entered the River Thames at Vicarage Walk, SW11.
“Witnesses reported it was driven by one male occupant.
“Officers, London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and HM Coastguard attended.
“At around 11:20hrs the car was recovered from the water with one male found inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries to confirm his identity and inform next of kin are under way.
“Enquiries into the circumstances continue.”
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “HM Coastguard responded to a report of a car going into the Thames at Battersea.
“The alarm was raised at about 12.20am on 28 March and the RNLI lifeboat from Chiswick was sent.
“Also attending were units from the Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade.”
