A man has been charged with rape, assault and false imprisonment after a woman he knew felt from height in Mitcham, leaving her with serious injuries.
Police were called to Mitcham shortly before 4pm on Thursday, May 23 to reports that a woman had fallen from a height.
On arrival, police found a woman, believed to be in her 40s, with serious injuries.
She was taken to hospital where her condition was assessed as life-threatening.
Police have since confirmed that she remains in hospital in a stable condition.
A man, 47, from Mitcham was charged today (Saturday, May 25) with rape, false imprisonment, ABH, and threatening to share photos or film of a person in an intimate state.
He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court the same day.
The man was initially arrested by officers at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.
He was remanded in custody to next appear at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, June 21.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called to Mitcham Park, Mitcham at about 15:55hrs on Thursday, 23 May following reports that a woman has fallen from height.
“Officers attended and on arrival found a woman – believed to be aged in her 40s – with serious injuries.
“She was taken to hospital for treatment, where she remains in a stable condition.
“A 47-year-old man from Mitcham was charged Saturday, 25 May, with rape, false imprisonment, ABH, and threatening to share photograph or film of person in intimate state.
“He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on the same day.
“He was initially arrested by officers at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.
“He was remanded in custody to next appear at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, 21 June.
“The victim and the man are known to each other.”
