A couple in Sutton are hosting a “night full of music” in memory of their late parents.
Catherine Rodgers and her fiancée Luke Collins are hosting a music event called Music To Mend Hearts at Sutton United Football Club on July 6.
Catherine, 40, described the upcoming event as a “night full of music” with live performances and entertainment for the families.
A ticket costs £10 and all proceeds will go to the British Heart Foundation and Asthma and Lung UK.
Catherine told Your Local Guardian: “It’s just a night to raise awareness for both charities in memory of my dad who died 15 years ago, and Luke’s mum, who we found dead on New Year’s Day last year.”
Catherine added: “It’s in memory of them.
“My dad had a cardiac arrest at Shenfield train station, so that’s the British Heart Foundation side of things.
“And Luke’s mum had COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), but it was her heart that gave up in the end.”
Catherine explained that COPD does not have their own charity, which is why they are doing Asthma and Lung UK.
Catherine and Luke have been planning this event since March, and Catherine said: “We chose Sutton United because the room is really nice and they have a lovely stage we can use.
“We hosted this event a few years ago in Essex when I did the London Marathon and it was really popular, and we hope it’ll get the same amount of interest down here in Sutton.”
Catherine said that she and Luke write and produce music and have a couple of tracks on Spotify.
Catherine said: “We’ve got some very talented friends musically, so we’ve got some DJs, we’ve got live performances across a variety of different types of music.”
Catherine stated that she has approached local businesses and they have donated raffle prizes for the one they will hold there.
The raffle prizes will include:
- Bottle of wine from Corks N Keg in Carshalton
- Signed book, Whiskey and Glass Set from the author Dave Palmer
- Bouquet of flowers from Flowers By Sue in Worcester Park
- Hair products from Kennadys in Essex
- Signed football from Sutton United FC
- Cut and blowdry from The Little Pink Hair Salon
The event is family-friendly, starting at 6pm and ending at 11.30pm.
