From mechanics to contractors, several Croydon-based businesses and workers have made it on the deliberate tax defaulters list.

Reports released by HM Revenue and Customers every three months name and shame the businesses and individuals who have been caught filing incorrect tax reports across the country.

Many are ordered to pay penalties for either deliberately filing errors in their tax returns or deliberately failing to comply with tax obligations.

John Thomas Forry, of 150 Salmons Lane in Whyteleafe in Caterham, is a mechanic who was slapped with a £28,373.62 bill after a total of £54,045 went unaccounted for between April 6, 2019, to April 5, 2020.

Mechanical engineer Ian Lee Howard, of 29 Bond Street in Mitcham, was hit with a £22,478.12 fine after £34,582.91 went unaccounted for between April 6, 2016, and April 5, 2022.

Keith Andrew Cadogan was fined £35,270.60 after a sum of £53,038.50 went unaccounted for income from his property at 56 Broughton Road in Thornton Heath between April 5, 2015, and April 5, 2016.

Marian Chiric, a construction contractor of 39 Broadway Avenue, was also added to the list.

She received a penalty charge of £20,641.36 after £29,487 amount of tax or duty was called into question between April 6, 2019, and April 5, 2022.

Finally, Prono Ltd, a company specialising in other building completion and finishing services on 224F London Road, was identified in September 2023 as a deliberate tax defaulter.

The company was hit with a £26,961.29 charge after £39,503.75 of tax or duty was unaccounted for between August 31, 2021, and May 31, 2022.
