Around 100 firefighters were called to a huge blaze in Morden after a pile of rubbish set on fire.
Fire crews were called to a recycling centre on Amenity Way at around 3am this morning (Saturday, July 20).
The fire was under control shortly before 8am but crews remained on the scene to damp down hotspots.
Fifteen fire engines were called to the scene and the blaze is under investigation.
Station Commander Scott Thorpe was at the scene, he said: "Crews worked tirelessly throughout the night in extremely hot conditions to bring this fire under control.
"It's expected to be a warm day but we're reminding local residents to continue to keep their windows and doors due to the heavy smoke.
“Specialist teams are working to monitor air quality in the area."
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters tackled a fire at a recycling centre on Amenity Way in Morden.
“A pile of rubbish measuring 20 metres by five metres was alight.
“The fire is now under control, but crews will remain on scene damping down hotspots.
“The Brigade was called at 0257 and the fire was under control by 0750.
“Fire crews from New Malden, Mitcham, Sutton, Wimbledon, Wallington, Surbiton, Norbury and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
