An 80-year-old has been bailed after being accused of strangling his wife to death.
Alan Sharp appeared at the Old Bailey by videolink from Wandsworth Prison on Tuesday (July 23), accused of murdering his wife Jenny.
Jenny, 80, was pronounced dead at their home on Raeburn Avenue in Tolworth.
His three adult sons sat in court to hear him confirm his identity before Judge Mark Lucraft KC.
The judge set a plea hearing for October 8 and a provisional seven-day trial from March 31 next year.
Mr Sharp was granted conditional bail by the judge, who told him he must attend the next hearing in person.
Police were called at about 9.30am last Friday to the couple’s address in Raeburn Avenue, after Mrs Sharp was found unresponsive.
She was pronounced dead at 9.32am
Sharp was arrested at the scene and charged with her murder on Saturday.
A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as “manual compression of the neck”, Scotland Yard has said.
