A person has died after being hit by a train at Esher railway station.

Emergency services, including paramedics and British Transport Police, were called to the scene at 8.26am yesterday (August 4).

The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police have stated that they do not believe the incident to be suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

This incident has caused major disruptions to train services, especially affecting South Western Railway routes near Wimbledon and Surbiton.

While the lines have now reopened, there were delays until 6pm yesterday.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Esher railway station at 8.26am on 4 August to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner."
