A man from Mitcham has admitted violent disorder and assaulting a police officer at a far-right protest in Whitehall.
Mitchell Hanley, 36, of Aitken Close, was part of a group who confronted police officers during a gathering of around 700 people on July 31.
Prosecutor Alexander Agbamu said Daniel Thomas, known as Danny Tommo, organised the demonstration and members of the far-right responded with the seeming intention of replicating scenes seen earlier in the week across the country.
He said the demonstration was precipitated by false information relating to the religion and immigration status of the perpetrator of the Southall murders.
Police imposed conditions that demonstrators must remain on Richmond Terrace and the protest must end by 8.30pm.
However, the demonstration grew violent as demonstrators broke out of the area and bottles were thrown at officers.
Hanley appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (August 15) where he pleaded guilty to assaulting PC James Pratt and violent disorder.
He was produced from custody at Inner London Crown Court on Monday (August 19) but the sentencing hearing was adjourned as his barrister did not attend.
