Parking is to become free overnight in seven of Croydon’s district centres.

The free overnight parking will apply from 6pm to 6.59am.

Overnight parking became free on August 13.

District centre car parks with free overnight parking are:

  • Clifford Road car park in South Norwood, SE25 5JH (26 parking bays)
  • Garnet Road Car park in Thornton Heath, CR7 8RD (28 parking bays)
  • Granville Gardens car park in Norbury, SW16 4EU (109 parking bays)
  • Lion Green Road car park in Coulsdon, CR5 2NL (95 parking bays)
  • Russell Hill Place car park in Purley, CR8 2LT (51 parking bays)
  • Sanderstead Road car park, CR2 0LY (32 parking bays)
  • Central Parade car park in New Addington, CR0 0JL (208 parking bays).

The changes have been made after listening to residents and will help them if they need to use car parking facilities late at night which will also help to boost the local nighttime economy.

This change follows the recent introduction of one hour of free parking in the district and other local centres which is helping shoppers and businesses.

Other recent changes also include reducing parking charges in West Croydon Station car park and reducing the price for longer stays in areas where there are 12-hour maximum on-street bays.

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon, said: “We’re pleased to announce that we have listened to our residents’ and traders’ concerns about affordable car park charging and have revised our parking charges.

“This will make it fairer, simpler and more consistent across Croydon for our residents and visitors who need to park at night in our district centres, which will help them save money on an evening out or when working late.”
