A well-known Victorian cemetery in south London is set to host a screening of the Wicker Man this weekend.
Located in the south London borough of Southwark between Peckham and Brockley, Nunhead Cemetery was built in 1840 and is often referred to as one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ Victorian cemeteries built in London, alongside Highgate Cemetery in North London.
This Saturday (September 7) as part of the Peckham and Nunhead Free Film Festival which has been running for over a decade, this year's film choice voted by the public was the 1973 version of The Wicker Man starring Edward Woodward.
The free screening will take place in the outdoor setting of the cemetery surrounded by this Grade II* burial ground set within 52 acres of land.
Visitors are advised to bring waterproof clothing and something to sit on.
The event is non-ticketed with a 300 maximum capacity and a queuing system to be in place during the event.
Due to the film’s 15 and over rating, minors under that age will not be permitted into the event and there is also a no-alcohol policy for this event.
Alongside the film screening, the cemetery will also be hosting a series of open days with crypt and chapel visits on September 14 & 15 as part of Heritage Open Days this month.
Visitors will have a chance to explore the Anglican chapel and the crypt beneath, along with guided tours running on both days and a woodland walk.
Homemade treats will also be available to buy if you get peckish.
Booking is not required with visitors able to turn up on the day for a “rare” chance to explore this historic setting.
