A man has been rushed to hospital with head and back injuries after an incident in Mitcham today.

Emergency services were called to Wide Way in Mitcham early this morning (September 7) at around 5:28am where a man between his 40s and 50s was suffering with injuries.

An ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer were despatched to the scene.

One man was treated for back and head injuries before being taken to a major trauma centre as a priority.

Police say enquiries to establish the circumstances are ongoing and that no arrests have yet been made.

According to AA Maps, a detour is in place both ways between South Lodge Avenue and B272 Manor Road.

Bus routes 60, 152, 255 and 463 are all being diverted whilst the detour is in place.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “On Saturday, 7 September at 05:30hrs police were called to Wide Way, Mitcham following reports of a man, believed to be in his 40s, with injuries at the location.

“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended, and the victim was taken to hospital.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of how he sustained his injuries.

“A number of roads remain closed. 

“There have been no arrests made at this time.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 and give reference 1551/07Sep.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 5.28am today (7 September) to reports of an injured person in Wide Way, Mitcham.

“We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer to the scene.

“We treated a patient for head and back injuries and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
