A Clapham pub has been named as the best sustainable pub in Britain.
The Pig’s Head, based in Rectory Grove, was certified as carbon neutral in April 2023 and prides itself on sourcing products from local suppliers to keep its environmental impact low.
It was named as the best sustainable pub by the British Pub Awards 2024.
It is an independent, “farm-to-fork” pub that can be found in Clapham Old Town.
Sustainability is at the heart of the pub’s values and it aims to “make a positive impact on both the planet and society”.
A spokesperson for the pub said: “We are a passionate bunch, and our mission is simple; to be the best pub in Clapham and the most sustainable pub in the UK.
“We were certified carbon neutral in April 2023, and we are proud to belong to a small group of hospitality businesses that can claim this status.
“Every business consumes resources, and we are no different.
“Our ultimate aim is to achieve Net Zero at the earliest opportunity.
“To do so will require a fundamental shift in the hospitality supply chain.
“Until then, we aim to reduce our environmental impact every year by searching for better ways to do what we do and help our supply chain work more sustainably.”
The pub holds plenty of events, the next one being its grill night special on September 26.
This is its fourth grill night which features “the finest cuts and ages from our rare breed animals, all expertly butchered on site”.
On October 17, The Pig’s Head is hosting farm-to-fork dinner evening which involves a “meet the farmer” dining series – this time the farmer being Adam Hall who rears woodland Tamworth pigs.
Slightly further down the line in November, the pub will celebrate its three-year anniversary with a week of offers and events.
