A woman has died after being rescued from a house fire in Carshalton.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled the blaze in Pipewell Lane just before 10.50am yesterday (September 19).
Half of the ground floor of the end of terraced house was damaged by the fire.
The woman was rescued from the building by firefighters who were wearing breathing apparatus.
She was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews where her condition was initially unknown.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade confirmed today (September 20) that she later died.
The incident was over for firefighters just after 11.20am.
Crews from Mitcham, Sutton, Wimbledon and Twickenham fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "Sadly, a woman has died following a house fire on Pipewell Road in Carshalton.
"Half of the ground floor was damaged by the fire.
"One woman was rescued from the building by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service, where she sadly later died.
"The Brigade was called at 1046 and the incident was over for firefighters at 1122.
"Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Mitcham, Sutton, Wimbledon and Twickenham fire stations attended the scene.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service."
