A flood alert is currently in place for parts of Surrey along the River Thames following heavy rainfall overnight.
The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert from Shepperton to Molesey today (September 27) following heavy rainfall overnight, with a yellow weather warning in place for large parts of the country.
What areas are affected?
The River Thames from Shepperton to West and East Molesey including:
- Hamm Court
- Walton-on-Thames
- Sunbury
The agency has warned that flooding of low lying land and roads is expected today, particularly in the Sunbury area.
Further rainfall is forecast for much of today and over the weekend, which the Environment Agency has warned may lead to high river levels over the coming days.
Staff from the agency are currently monitoring water levels and have advised people in affected areas to avoid low lying footpaths near local watercourses.
Further updates are expected this evening as heavy rain continues throughout the day.
