A Croydon garage is set to be knocked down to make way for four new houses, but there have been no supporters of the plan.

This year, Nordhus Properties Ltd applied to Croydon Council to demolish the garage standing at 8 Cedar Walk in Kenley.

The Croydon Council Planning Sub-Committee met in early September to discuss whether to approve or reject the application.

The Sub-Committee came to a decision and have approved the application.

The plan will provide four new semi-detached homes.

The homes will both have three bedrooms, with one home wheelchair compliant.

There will be eight parking spaces and as well as cycling spaces.

The site falls within a Public Transport Accessibility Level (PTAL) of 0, with Kenley railway station about a 15-minute walk away.

However, the planners have noted that despite this, the site benefits from being less than a five-minute walk from The Hayes Primary School and near open spaces, such as Betts Mead Recreation Ground and Kenley Common.

The plan states that a few trees will be removed, but the planners state that “these trees are not a significant or prominent part of the street scene, and their loss will have little impact on the character or amenity of the area”.

There would also be one large communal garden at the front of the buildings.

The communal gardens would be surrounded by tall trees, which the planners say they will plant.

The council has refused the application in the past because the proposed development was considered bad for the area's look and feel.

It didn't fit well with the existing buildings, which could have led to overcrowding.

But the planning amendments were deemed “suitable” by the sub-committee.

Despite the council’s decisions, some Kenley and Cedar Walk residents aren’t happy and are expected to state their objections on Thursday at the meeting.

There have been 36 objections submitted on the Croydon Council website and zero supporters.

Work is expected to commence in the New Year.
